Artists rendering of sculpture
provided by Tom McKee. |
In 2005, to commemorate the Bucktown Arts fest’s 20th anniversary, a multi-year effort was launched to install a
permanent sculpture in the soon-to-be renovated playground in Holstein Park. An initial design has been created and,
as the funds held in reserve grow, a schedule will be set and an artist selected
to build this work.
In 2006, the Bucktown Arts Fest spoke with the Holstein Park Superintendent about what kind of art programs would best suit Holstein Park and the evolving neighborhood it serves. The group decided to focus a series of seasonal family art workshops. Each workshop featured an art activity for the family to do together and take home.
Past Events
- July 21, 2007: Mr. Smarty Pants
- June 15, 2007: Birdhouse Workshop. A great day in the park with more than 50 kids taking new deluxe accommodations home for their bird friends. The Bucktown Arts Fest provided the wood houses, paint and other decorations. Sunshine provided by mother nature.
- April 6, 2007 Easter Egg Hunt. In partnership with Friends of Holstein Park, over 100 children hopped through the park to fill their baskets. The Bucktown Arts Fest provided eggs and candy. And fun was had in spite of the chilly temperature.
-
Feb 10, 2007: Valentine Card Workshop
More than 45 kids and parents made as many Valentines Day mailboxes and cards as they wanted. The Bucktown Arts Fest provided the mailboxes and all supplies for the cards including paper, card stock, ribbon, markers, stickers, glitter.

December 2, 2006: Gingerbread Workshop
Our first program was an enormous success with 75 families attending. Families worked together to decorate a gingerbread house. The Bucktown Arts Fest supplied the pre-built houses and all the candy decorations.

Bucktown Fine Arts has designed an art camp to take place in the winter of 2006
at Holstein Park. This camp, for children, will include dance, photography, poetry
and music workshops. The workshops are conducted by Bucktown artists with extensive
resumes including photographer Denise Keim, www.denisekeim.com,
Michelle Kranicke artistic director of Zephyr Dance, www.zephyrdance.com,
Lauren Levato, www.laurenlevato.com,
Eric Noden, www.ericnoden.com and Second City alum, Brandies University
graduate Karen Shuman. The students will finish each class, offered in sequence
over several weeks, with complete work in each of the art forms.
The
students in our second session will be creating a performance for the grand opening
of the new playground at Holstein Park.
