2008 Bucktown Arts Fest poster

Poster design donated by Amy Arnold
Art, in all its forms, has been the sole focus of the Bucktown Arts fest since its inception in 1985. From its roots as a small gathering of local artisans to its current incarnation as one of Chicago’s premier gatherings of painters, sculptors, photographers and craftspeople (not to mention musicians, actors, poets, and dancers), the fest puts the spotlight squarely on that mysterious amalgam of inspiration and perspiration that delights the eye and stirs the soul.

Run entirely by volunteers and free from the intrusive, large-scale commercialization common at similar events, the Bucktown Arts fest is a place to relax, explore and take in a remarkable cornucopia of individual expression and imagination.

But the Bucktown Arts fest offers something else, as well: a chance for visitors to explore one of the city’s most distinctive and charming neighborhoods, wander our streets and parks, and meet some of the people who make Bucktown the singular place it is. It’s that combination of art and neighborhood that makes the Bucktown Arts fest an event unique in Chicago. For two days every August, it’s a chance for residents and visitors to come together, connect or reconnect, and celebrate the talent in our midst.
